Für 130.000 € wurde der Schlüssel zum “Fernglasschrank” der Titanic versteigert.
Wir erinnern uns: der Matrose Fred Fleet im Krähennest der Titanic hatte den Eisberg ja nur deshalb nicht früher erkennen können weil es auf der Titanic in der Unglücksnacht des 14.April 1912 nur ein Fehrnglas gab - und das hatten die Offiziere auf der Brücke.
Alle anderen Fehrgläser waren im Fernglasschrank verwart - nur den Schlüssel hatte der zweite Offizier David Blair in der Jackentasche. Blair war aber kurzfristig zu einem anderen Schiff beordert worden und fuhr gar nicht auf der Titanic mit. Naja, aufbrechen wollte man den Schrank wohl wegen einer solchen Kleinigkeit nicht…
Um die Autentizität des Schlüssels zu beweisen liegt auch eine Postkarte des zweiten Offiziers bei, in der er es bedauert nicht auf der Titanic mitgefahren zu sein - abgeschickt natürlich vor bekanntwerden des Unglücks bei dem 1500 Menschen starben.
Seltsam nur, das ich bis dato nichts von diesem Schlüssel gehört hatte…
